When we think about giving back to the community, many of us know it’s a great idea, but often feel we don’t have the time, or energy, to spare in our go-go-go lifestyles. But what if all you had to do is go for a walk on a sunny day in the park? Even an action as simple as this can create a great impact on our community!

On May 5th, Progressa employees across Canada participated in the BMO Vancouver Marathon supporting Covenant House, and the Toronto Marathon supporting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Both Vancouver and Toronto were both were fortunate enough to have sunshine for our events.

The BMO Vancouver Marathon is one of the top destination marathon events in the world. This year the winner of the Boston Marathon Yuki Kawauchi,  who also won in Vancouver with a time of 2:15:01. His fiancee, Yuko Mizuguchi won the women’s marathon with a time of 2:42:28. “Running around Stanley Park in the midst of all that nature really gave me a nice boost,” Mizuguchi said in a BMO Vancouver Marathon news release.

A few of our Progressa employees chose to run the 8km portion.

Teammates Raisa, Phil and Rich all completed the BMO 8km in under 49 minutes!

At Progressa, we believe in giving everyone a second chance, not just with their credit. Each year we select five local charities for our Progressa Gives initiative in both Vancouver and Toronto, to support and hold various team building events to raise money.

With each Vancouver participant, Progressa chose to donate to Covenant House Vancouver, who is “dedicated to serving all youth, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to protect and safeguard all youth in need”. The charity provided food, shelter, clothing, counselling and more to 1,228 youth last year.

In Toronto our team supported the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, one of the top 5 cancer research centers in the world. With 206,152 Canadians being diagnosed with cancer this year, this cause is close to all of our hearts. The foundation is “committed to transforming cancer care through discovery research and clinical innovations that set new standards of care for Canada and the world”.
